Omer Dekel
I am a proud husband and father of three amazing children who attend Welsh Valley Middle School. Originally from Israel, I immigrated to the United States 17 years ago and have called Lower Merion home ever since. My background includes service in the Israeli Defense Forces' intelligence corps, where I currently hold the rank of Reserve Captain, reflecting my commitment to service and leadership.
Education and Professional Experience
I hold a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, and have pursued PhD studies in computer science at Drexel University. My career spans over 20 years in the tech industry, focusing on innovation, strategy, data, and AI. Currently, I serve as the Director of AI Engineering at a SaaS company, leading teams to build value-driven, AI-powered products.
Community Involvement
In recent years, I've become increasingly involved in our school district, attending board meetings and participating in parent and community associations to stay informed and advocate for our children's needs. During COVID I lead a grassroots 3D fabrication collective which produced and donated 23,000 PPE to local hospitals and frontline heroes. I've seen both the amazing work happening and areas where we can improve, which motivates me to run for the School Board.
Motivation for Running
I'm running to bring my expertise in data and technology to enhance our District's governance. By setting clear objectives with measurable outcomes and fostering transparency, I aim to maximize our investments and ensure every student receives a world-class education. When I'm not working, I enjoy tinkering with technology, solving problems, and riding off-road motorcycles, but my family and our community's future are my top priorities.
